Q: Why won't this game run?
A: All games on this website are made for the windows platform only. Sorry, no linux or Mac games. All games require that
you have DirectX. All recent games require version 8, some very old can
handle with version 5. To run the new games you also need a 3D compatible videocard with at least 16 mb video ram and that you are running Windows 98
SE or higher. Almost all PC's sold in the last 4 years have one of these.
An other issue can be with multiplayer games. If you have difficulty setting up a multiplayer game have a look at these tips from Microsoft.
Q: Can I use your games/files?
A: This all depends what youw want to use them for.
Several of my games are made open source for you to learn from and several resources about this have been created by me. You are free to use these resources to learn from.
You are allowed to use resources from my Game Maker website for any kind of game, both freeware, commercial, open source or anything else provided you follow the conditions as stated in the licence agreement. To use my games for commercial purposes, see the FAQ about media.
Q: A download link is down!A: My apologies for the inconvinience. Please contact me and mention what file you are trying to download and if available, what mirror you are using. I will try to fix this problem as soon as possible. Once again, my apologies, for the inconvinience.
Q: Why are some download links offline? A: My apologies for the inconvinience. My website and those of my mirrors can only handle a limited amount of downloads a day. To prevent using up all the bandwidth of one server each server has a maximum amount of downloads per day. The offline error will be reset at midnight CET, that's in 10 hours, 48 minutes and 33 seconds.
Q: What do I do with a .zip file?A: You need a decompression program to open a .zip file. Within Windows XP this is already included but you can download the stand alone Winzip for instance.
Q: What do I do with a .gm6 or .gmd file? A: These are source codes from Game Maker. You need Game Maker to open these files. See my Game Maker Website for more information.
Q: Can I link/hotlink to your games/files? A: You are always free to link to my websites. The most useful method for linking is to place a link to the place on my website where I placed the link. For instance if you want to link to Bacteria 2 I would prefer if you add a link to the Bacteria 2 download page. This way people can find all the info they need about the download. However if you prefer you can also link directly to the download page on my site. I don't usually allow hotlinking to my files but if you can mail me a good reason why I should allow it I'm always willing to think about it. Please don't hotlink to files without my permission nor try to bypass my download counter. Thanks in advance.
Q: Do you want me to mirror your games/files? A: Sure, the more mirrors, the more chances somebody has to download my files. If you want to mirror my files please contact me with what files you want to mirror, how I can hotlink to these files, what the maximum amount of downloads per day is you allow me to send through to prevent your bandwidth from running out and also, if you plan to link directly to the download yourself I'd like the ability to see your download stats. That way I can get an idea how much downloads I'm getting. Feel free to contact me for more information. If you want to host my game for commercial purposes, your own review, media attention, publish it on a CD or other medium then please follow the points mentioned onder media.
Q: Can I review your games/files? A: Sure. There are a few requirements though. When reviewing my resources you are required to properly credit me for creating them and you have to provide a link to one of the entry pages on my site like com, nl, games, gamemaker, ... and also it should be clearly labeled that the reviewed resource is made by and copyrighted to me, Simon Donkers and not to the reviewing site. Also I want to be informed of this. Looking forward to your review.
Q: Can I redistribute your games/files? A: Probably. Please send an email to me explaining who you are, how you want to redistribute my games, what target audience you have, how you want to do the distribution, to who the distribution is available, if there's a commercial gain for you (distributing it as an ad-on for a gaming magazine is something different then selling it in stores on it's own or including adware with it). Please contact me and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks in advance.
Q: What licence are your resources distributed under? A: This depends from resource to resource. Please contact me and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Q: Where can I find additional information about your resources? A: You can have a look over my websites like com, nl, games, gamemaker which can give you lots of extra information. You can always contact me with your questions.
